Climate Change

Carbon Dioxide is a harmless gas that is necessary for life on earth.  We drink it in our soft drinks and water.  Greenhouse (glasshouse) operators add CO2 to the air inside to improve plant growth.  To consider CO2 a pollutant is not only silly, but irresponsible.

CAP is interested in continual improvement of our environment.  Farmers are the primary caretakers of our freehold land, and private property in Australia is some of the best managed anywhere.  Contrary to what is commonly purported, farmers generally add more to their soil than they take.  Thanks to progressive farming techniques like low- or no-till farming, terracing, contour farming, integration of animal agriculture into crop rotations, etc., soil health is better than ever.  Farmers have a lot to be proud of!

Our Climate IS changing.  It always has, and it always will.  With freedom, farmers will adapt to ever-changing conditions, and will continue to feed the world.

CAP is opposed to the implementation of an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) or the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS), as Australia's scheme is called.  This amounts to a huge tax on Australians, with no environmental gain.  In fact, our environment will suffer, because resources will be channeled away from real, on-the-ground environmental management.
